Equivalenze – Federico Grandicelli

“Whenever I devote myself to a new process or a new material, I come up against a range of limitations that is different every time: often my work is to push the materials as far as they can go. I believe that interesting things begin to happen, starting from a genuine physical relationship between the images, when we go beyond the limitations of photographic paper and start to have a physical relationship with the material.”

(Federico Grandicelli)

Equivalenze by Federico Grandicelli, curated by 3/3, Chiara Capodici and Fiorenza Pinna, is the first exhibition in the Honos spaces to present an artist working primarily with photography. Here the photographic medium moves within and beyond its limits, becoming a sculpture and a totem, a study and a biunique correspondence, the visual traces of an experimental act in which the transparency of photography, the presumed direct relationship between reality and representation is simultaneously demonstrated and negated, traversed and unfolded.

Between literal and metaphorical meanings, in a constant tension between formalism and action, the work eludes the stability of abstraction to force us back into the midst of the material unfolding of the process
